OLYMPIC BOBSLEIGH - LSGT LAMIN DEEN
I am writing to make you aware that, in the shape of LSgt Lamin Deen (pilot of the GB1 4 man bobsleigh), the Regiment has a fantastic athlete, and a Grenadier for us all to be proud of. He is representing Great Britain as part of the GB Winter Olympic Team.
He flew out with the team yesterday morning and will be in a Training Camp before moving up to The Olympic Village prior to their event. The 4 Man Bobsleigh event is a race is over 4 runs; the first two on 23 Feb, the second two on the 24 Feb 18. So please tune in on TV, watch and keep your fingers crossed that he will enjoy success.
You will be interested to know that he (and other athletes) had a very tough time last year, through no fault of his, but due to well publicised incompetence and mismanagement at the heart of British Bobsleigh. His problems were largely sorted out through the relentless efforts of Andrew Dixon and David Maddan, but Lamin Deen himself behaved impeccably throughout and with great restraint and humility.
This year, he was back on the podium in a World Cup race and is seeded back in the world's Top 10. As such, he is a realistic medal contender in 3 weeks time, but irrespective of the outcome, we should applaud him for all that he has achieved and I know that all Grenadiers will join me in wishing him the best of luck.
