Sgt Stephen Stringer (Service Number 2623593) was born in Sedgley Staffordshire on the 25th July 1924. He was the first in his family to serve with the Regiment and he enlisted on the 9th November 1942. During his service, he served during the war years in London and Italy before ending the war in BAOR, serving in Dusseldorf. He saw further service in BAOR during the 1940’s prior to deploying to Egypt in 1954. Stephen finally discharged from the Regiment on the 9th November 1954 after 12 years’ service. On leaving the Regiment, Stephen returned to Sedgley where he was employed as a postman until he retired. He was an active member of the association and served as Branch Secretary of the Wolverhampton Branch for a number of years before ill health forced him to withdraw. Stephen was immensely proud of his service with the Grenadier Guards and remained a supporter of his association to the end. Stephen died on the 30th December 2016 at Russell Hall Hospital Dudley after sustaining a fall at home on the 17th November. He is survived by 2 sons Robert and Kirk. His wife Comfort Joan whom he married in 1952 predeceased him in 2005.
