Corporal Ivery was born on the 21st December 1926 in Portsmouth. He signed up for the Grenadier Guards on 5th December 1944; he initially joined up for the hostilities but ended up serving 22 years in the British Army (first with the Grenadier Guards and then later with the Royal Engineers). He was a member of the 2nd Battalion and as well as serving during WW2 he served in Germany, Korea and Christmas Island amongst other places. Corporal Ivery completed his service on 12 May 1967. His certificate of service states his Military Conduct as Exemplary. After leaving the British Army he joined the Foreign Office and worked for the Diplomatic Service as Head of Security in overseas Embassies before retiring in 1985. Corporal Ivery died of natural causes on the 6th March 2017, in a nursing home in Portsmouth. He was a gentleman to the end who carried the high standards installed in him from his Army days. He is survived by his Nephew Alan , Wife Jackie and Great Niece and Nephew Jessica and Jack. His Wife, Maura who he married in 1960, predeceased him in 2010.
