George Critchley was born in 1938. He joined the Grenadier Guards in 1957 as a National Service man and was posted to the 3rd Battalion as a Regimental Signaller. He served in Cyprus and in Wellington Barracks, London. After he left the Regiment he was employed with the General Post Office and then as a Gilly for a Scottish laird. He retired because of ill health. He died on the 18th April 2011 at Totley near Sheffield. He leaves his wife Avril Critchley and a younger brother.
