Royal State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
21 September 2022
Grenadiers,
Since the Royal State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Regimental Headquarters has been inundated with congratulatory messages for the parts played by the Bearer Party, by other members of the Queen’s Company and the 1st Battalion, particularly the large Guard of Honour in Horseshoe Cloister found by the Inkerman Company, Nijmegen Company who formed part of the Tri-Service Guard of Honour on Parliament Square and, not least, the Regimental Band.
All such messages will continue to be passed on to the Grenadiers involved. We are most grateful for this recognition of a sad but important duty done to the best of our abilities and in the finest traditions of the Regiment. Once a Grenadier, always a Grenadier.
On a related point, the Queen’s Company will continue to be known as such until His Majesty The King issues the requisite order to change its title to the King’s Company. Therefore, the changeover is NOT immediate, whereas other changes such as King’s Guard and the King’s Colour have already taken place. As a guide, following the death of King George VI in 1952, the redesignation order was issued fifteen days after the death of The King.
