Death of 22213898 Alan Evan Thomas Jones
18 October 2022
Grenadiers,
It is with great sadness I report the death of Alan Evan Thomas Jones, Alan was a loyal member of the East Kent Branch of our Association. In his younger years, he was a Musician in the Band of the Grenadier Guards.
Following his Service with the Colours, he performed with The Roulettes, who were a British rock and roll and beat group formed in London in 1961. Alan was part of the original line up and they were recruited to play as the backing group to singer Adam Faith the following year. By the end of 1963, The Roulettes had toured with Adam Faith throughout Australasia (where they also backed John Leyton), the Far East, most of Europe and had taken part in frequent UK gigs and TV and radio appearances with Faith.
The Roulettes and Adam Faith continued to perform and record until the late 1960s.
During his time with the band, Alan was better known as Alan ‘Honk’ Jones as he played saxophone.
Alan became a member of the East Kent Branch in August 2008 and had a property in Dymchurch. Until his eyesight deteriorated, in later life, he was a regular attendee at our Branch meetings and events. He taught clarinet and other instruments well into his late 70’s/early 80’s.
Alan died on 03 October 2022, aged 89, and his funeral will be held at 1330 hrs on Friday 11 November 2022 at Hawkinge Crematorium.
He will be greatly missed by his partner (Diana Fulbrook), his son (Mark Jones), his daughter (Jackie Riley), his wider family and his many friends both inside and outside of the East Kent Branch Grenadier Guards Association.
Kindest Regards
